2017-2018 Transportation Information

The South Jefferson Central School District has adopted new computer software for the management of our transportation routes. We are working diligently to make sure the system is populated with accurate address, pick-up and drop-off information for every student who will be riding a bus to and/or from school.

At this time, routes are still being developed, reviewed and adjusted, so route numbers and bus stop times are not yet finalized. We are working to complete bus routing information for all students by August 30th, and plan to have it available to parents during the elementary Open Houses for PK-5 students.

Bus information is not traditionally sent out to students in grades 6-12 as they can expect their routes and times to be fairly similar to last year in most cases. Homeroom teachers with 6th graders will be provided with a list of students and their assigned afternoon bus numbers so they can help new middle schoolers adjust to the more independent dismissal routine.

The Transportation Department uses the following information to develop and assign bus routes:

Pre-K and K Students: The information parents provided on the "blue sheet" in the registration packet will be used to assign students to bus routes. If any information has changed since you submitted your registration paperwork, please contact your child's main office.

1st - 5th Grade Students: Information from the "blue sheet" we have on file from last year will be used to assign students to bus routes. If your address, pick-up location and/or drop-off location have changed, you will need to submit an updated "blue sheet." You may do this at Open House(August 30th) or any time before then by stopping in at your child's school.

6th - 12th Grade Students: It is assumed that students in grades 6-12 who ride the bus will be picked up and dropped off at their home address and will be assigned bus routes accordingly. We do not collect "blue sheets" for students in middle school and high school. If your middle/high school student is to be picked up or dropped off at a location other than home on a regular basis, please contact the main office at your child's main office.

Once all students are assigned to bus routes, the software program predicts the approximate pick-up and drop-off times for each student. The actual bus stop times may vary up to 20 minutes (10 minutes earlier or later), especially in the first weeks of school as routes are being fine tuned. We thank you for your patience and your support as we work together to provide safe, efficient, reliable transportation for our students across nearly 200 square miles.
